1st official look at MMA fighter Gina Carano in Steven Soderbergh's Haywire

The little issues that forced Steven Soderbergh's revenge pic, Haywire(formerly Knockout), to move around on the release schedule may turn out to be a good thing. Finally landing on January 20th 2012, the film doesn't have to worry about getting lost in the summer blockbuster shuffle, or in the thick of the heavy Oscar contenders. Plus it gives us something to actually look forward to in a month that's usually full of the cinematic dregs.

We've seen a couple of on-set photos already, including this hilarious image of Ewan McGregor gettin' knocked the f**k out by a girl...

...and now we have the first official image courtesy of Collider, showing star and MMA fighter Gina Carano not so much kickin' ass but blowin' people away.

The plot is simple, Carano plays a black ops agent who seeks revenge against those who double crossed her. The cast isn't simple at all, in fact it's a remarkable bunch Soderbergh has pulled together. Carano in her feature debut, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Michael Angarano, Michael Douglas, and Bill Paxton. Guh. The script was written by Lem Dobbs, who helped make Terence Stamp terrifying with The Limey.

Soderbergh is still supposedly retiring, so he seems to be cranking out every great idea he's ever had for a final run. Not only do we have this to look forward to, but Contagion comes out in September. And finally he'll be shooting Magic Mike with Channing Tatum.
