Sure Shots: Escape from New York; Jennifer Lawrence; The Avengers teaser poster

* A remake of John Carpenter's sci-fi classic, Escape from New York, appears to be dead for now. New Line, which had been developing the film off and on for what seems like forever(with names like Jeremy Renner and Gerard Butler attached to play Snake Plissken), has decided to pass on the project. This doesn't mean they can't pick it up later, perhaps when this whole remake thing has quieted down a little bit. [Deadline]

* Jennifer Lawrence(Winters Bone) is said to be the lead contender for a major female role in David O. Russell's drama, The Silver Linings Playbook. O. Russell's cinematic soulmate, Mark Wahlberg, stars as a former high school teacher just released into the care of his mother after a stint in rehab for depression. He gets out and seeks to try and win back his wife. Lawrence would play a depressed neighbor and possible love interest. Angelina Jolie had been in talks to play the wife, but nothing's been heard on that for awhile. Lawrence will likely shoot the film after she wraps up Gary Ross's The Hunger Games.  [Deadline]

* It's Comic-Con, so expect a ton of crap like this for the next four days. Marvel has launched the official website for The Avengers, next year's superhero team-up featuring all of your costumed favorites from the last couple years: Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, and a couple of wannabes like Black Widow and Hawkeye. Joss Whedon is directing, with a May 4th 2012 release set in stone. In order to whet your appetite just a little bit more, they've also released a new teaser poster, which is basically just a big fat 'A'. At least it's not a scarlet 'A', because that stands for "asshole".(Crazy Stupid Love joke, sorry)...
