This year has been seen more alien invasions than sequels, which is really saying something. From Battle: Los Angeles all the way to last week's Cowboys & Aliens, the earth must be the most tantalizing delicacy in the known universe. There's still one more such flick on the horizon(other than Attack the Block, that is), and it's The Darkest Hour, starring Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Max Minghella, Rachel Taylor, and Greg Kinnear.
The hook of this one is that it features a bunch of young Americans in Moscow as the alien invasion hits. The aliens appear to be after our electricity. Oh, and they're invisible. Or using some kind of cloaking technology. The only thing I see truly making this look better than your average genre film is the cast, and the way too revealing trailer(we know the alien weakness already) does it's best to undermine that. It actually looks like something Timur Bekmambetov(Wanted, Day Watch) would direct himself, instead he's only on board to produce. Chris Gorak is behind the camera.
The Darkest Hour invades theaters on December 23rd!
