It's not often that I find myself in lock step with the critical community on their darlings coming out of the festival circuit, but in this we agree: Elizabeth Olsen is a revelation in Martha Marcy May Marlene. Period. It's her chilling performance as a woman struggling to cope with normal life after escaping a cult that sustains this haunting story. One film into her career and she's already more accomplished than her more famous siblings, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Have they paid us back for New York Minute yet?
Sean Durkin directed, with John Hawkes playing a cult leader who is almost like an extension of his Teardrop character in Winter's Bone. Only the damage he inflicts is purely psychological. Sarah Paulson(The Spirit) and Hugh Dancy(Adam) co-star. Two new trailers have been released, which Fox Searchlight had embedded in QR Codes on the film's poster. Pretty cool that the stupid QR app on my Iphone may start getting a workout if this is the marketing way of the future. Check those trailers out below, courtesy of TheFilmStage...
Martha Marcy May Marlene hits theaters on October 21st.
