Equadorianfilmmaker Sebastian Cordero isn't someone I'm familiar with, but his next film has got my attention for three reasons. One: it's a rather grand sounding sci-fi film, which is right up my alley. And two: it features an international cast including Sharlto Copley(District 9), Michael Nyqvist(The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and Anamaria Marinca(4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days). Daniel Wu(Around the World in 80 Days) is on board as well. And three: Eugenio Caballero, production designer for Pan's Labyrinth, will be doing the same for this film. That's good enough for me.
Written by Philip Gelatt, the story centers around a six-person team of astronauts from various international space stations sent by a private corporation to be the first manned mission to Jupiter's fourth moon.
Sounds a little bit like Danny Boyle's awesome 2007 film, Sunshine. I'll be curious to see who the rest of the six-man crew turns out to be. Shooting is set to kick off later this fall in New York. [Deadline]
