Another Navy Seals flick headed to the big screen from director John Stockwell
Hollywood has taken a Law & Order "ripped from the headlines" approach to filmmaking over the last few years. Every major current event now sees a flurry of pitched projects and script deals, some of which pan out but most tend to fall by the wayside as public interest dies down. In the case of Team Seal 6 and their mission to wipe Osama Bin Laden off the chessboard of life, that interest isnt waning by any means. There are something like half a dozen films on the subject, with the furthest along(and most controversial) being Kill Bin Laden from Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal(The Hurt Locker). But now you can add one more to that extensive list.
John Stockwell, director of mediocre movies like Tursistas and Into the Blue, but also behind the surprisingly good Crazy/Beautiful, has signed on to direct Code Name Geronimo. Variety reports the film will center on the mission to take down Bin Laden, seem from the perspective of a small contingent of Navy Seals. The script is by newcomer Kendall Lampkin, with filming to kick off in January.
I'll be happy when this whole phase is over and done with. Or when Paul Greengrass(United 93) finally settles down and makes a film on the subject himself.
