Sure Shots: The Dark Tower; Lily Collins; Steve Jobs
* So maybe The Dark Tower isn't dead afterall? A few months ago, Universal passed on Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Akiva Goldsman's planned adaptation of Stephen King's massive series of novels. Mainly due to the scope and the cost, which would have encompassed three films and two bridging TV series. ThePlaylist recently spoke to Grazer, who says that $40-$50M has been slashed, ensuring that the film will actually happen. That doesn't say much, and frankly I don't quite buy it. Not yet anyway. No word on whether it'd still be through Universal; whether Ron Howard will still direct since he's busy now; and whether the budget cut is for just the first film or the entire run.
* Lily Collins(Abduction) and her lush eyebrows has joined the cast of The English Teacher, starring Julianne Moore as a high school professor who falls in love with a returning graduate(Michael Angarano), back from failing as a playwright. Nathan Lane, Greg Kinnear, and Charlie Sexton co-star. TV director Craig Zisk(Weeds) is behind the camera. [Deadline]
* Before his body had even gone three days cold, Sony was already snatching up the rights to do a biopic on Apple founder technological genius, Steve Jobs. The plan is to adapt Walter Isaacson's hit biographical novel, titled simply Steve Jobs, and according to 24 Frames the hope is to get Aaron Sorkin(The Social Network) to write the screenplay. I figure there's no better choice than Sorkin, who has managed to make films on baseball and Facebook hella intriguing. Jobs' life is made for the movies, so let's hope this happens.
