The Great Gatsby just can't get here soon enough for me. After watching Baz Luhrmann piece the film together for so long, starting with some workshops featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, it's hard to believe we're still a year away from actually seeing it. Hard to believe there was some worry Luhrmann wouldn't make the film at all, but fortunately he was just angling for a better deal.
Adapting F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel is no easy task, especially when you consider the 1974 film is also considered untouchable by many. Fortunately he's gathered a ridiculously talent heavy cast to help him. Celebuzz has the first photos of DiCaprio, Maguire, and Carey Mulligan all dolled up for the shoot, and the images are colorful and stunning, just as you'd expect them to be. Come on, Leo, crack a smile! It doesn't hurt...
The rest of the cast, which I'm dying to see photos of, consists of Joel Edgerton, Elizabeth Debicki, Isla Fisher, and Jason Clarke. Yeah, that's a lot of Aussies. Shot in 3D for some reason, The Great Gatsby will open next year on Christmas Day, where it'll do head-to-head with Django Unchained. Talk about counter programming.
