Marc Rothemund to helm serial killer flick, Galapagos

It's been six years since Marc Rothemund earned his first and only Academy Award nomination for Sophie Scholl: The Final Days, his devastating film about the anti-Nazi student activist who was tried and executed for treason back in 1943. It was the film that introduced me to one of my favorite actresses, Julia Jentsch, and sent me scrambling to see her other stuff, like The Edukators and Downfall. I keep waiting for her to really hit it big here in the States, but it may never happen. Rothemund is back for his next flick, and all I can think is that I hope he brings Jentsch along for the ride.

THR reports that Rothemund will direct Galapagos, based on a strange series of killings in the Galapagos Islands during the 1930s. Written by Petra Luschow and adapted from Margarete Wittmer's autobiography, Floreana: A Woman's Pilgrimage to the Galapagos, the story centers on a small group of German emigres to the island. After a series of weird events, all of Wittmer's companions were either killed or vanished into thin air.

Casting is currently underway, so chances are this one will kick off shortly. One of the first people Rothemund ever worked with was Christoph Waltz, in a little seen German TV movie. Maybe he can get the popular actor to be a part of this? Eh, probably not.
