3. Immortals
At this point, Tarsem Singh can do no wrong in my book. The director crafts his gorgeous films with the touch of a master artist. Vibrant and electrifying, Immortals is one of the few movies that is so beautiful the leaden script can be ignored. Henry Cavill(Man of Steel) plays Theseus, a mortal chosen by the gods to defeat the rampaging King Hyperion(Mickey Rourke) before he can unleash the Titans and destroy the world.
2. Like Crazy
Hey look at that. A youthful romance that isn't about teen angst glittering vampires. Like Crazy is a mature, deeply felt love story about two young lovers(Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones) forced into a long distance relationship at the height of their passion.
1. Melancholia
Lars Von Trier has made plenty of powerful movies before, but never has there been one quite this unforgettable, with images and sweeping scores that will sear into your memory. Featuring a breakthrough performance by Kirsten Dunst, Melancholia follows the struggles of two sisters dealing in very different ways with the earth's imminent destruction.
DVD Pick of the Week: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2
After a decade of watching Harry Potter and his friends grow up, grow stronger, and grow closer, the end is finally here. The war with the evil Voldemort has boiled down to this one epic battle. Was the wait worth it? Or would Deathly Hallows go down as yet another franchise finale that couldn't live up to the hype? Not only is it as good as anyone could have hoped, I think it surpasses all reasonable expectations. The action is brisk and unrelenting. Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and everybody else have become more than just capable young actors, but seasoned veterans, and the emotion they bring to the deadly battle will invigorate and devastate you.
