Tim Burton may direct Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

The last few months I've been complaining a lot on this blog about the way Tim Burton's creativity has been stifled somewhat by the constant adaptations he undertakes. That'll change in a few months when Frankenweenie comes out, his first original film in years, but when I think of all the crazy films we could've seen from him it makes me a little sad. I understand, though. Studios know what he's capable of, and for the most part the many things thrown his way have been a perfect match. Fox, who hasn't worked with Burton on a directing project since 2000's Planet of the Apes, are looking to get him to direct an adaptation of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, and it's kindof a match made in Heaven.

The novel by Ransom Riggs centers on 16-year old Jacob, whose grandfather told him fantastic stories of an orphanage where the residents were posessed amazing abilities. Children who control fire, levitate, and speak through telepathy. When his grandfather dies, Jacob sets out to find the orphanage, and discovers it's rundown remains. He comes to learn that the kids may have been there because they were dangerous, and it's possible they may still be around.

Yep, this is Burton material all the way, and I'm envisioning him using his stop motion technique on this one to best present the kids' powers. Burton still needs to find a writer for it, so this one is still a ways off, but it sounds far more interesting than that Dark Shadows film he's got coming out next year. [Deadline]
