1st official images from Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby
Not that I was ever really concerned that Baz Luhrmann's big budget, 3D(!!?) take on The Great Gatsby would be anything less than faithful and authentic to the spirit of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, it's still nice to get some visual confirmation. Warner Brothers has released the first two official shots from the film, featuring it's gorgeous, star-studded cast. The first image features Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, with Carey Mulligan the bubbly (and shallow) Daisy Buchanan. In the background, Leonardo DiCaprio and Joel Edgerton as the contentious Jay Gatsby and Tom Buchanan. The second features Gatsby and Buchanan in an emotional embrace, a part of the affair that sets events into motion.
Everything from the actors to the costumes, even to that martini Maguire's holding, look stunning. I'm expecting a handful of Oscar nominations to emerge from this one when it hits theaters on Christmas Day 2012. Elizabeth Debicki, Isla Fisher, Jason Clarke, and Callan McAuliffe make up the rest of the supremely gifted cast. [TheFilmStage]
