Naomi Watts, Robin Wright to star in The Grandmothers
I don't know how she does it, but Robin Wright has only gotten sexier with age. To think I used to find her so plain, both in appearance and as an actress, and now she's absolutely exquisite. Not to mention she's had one of the finest years of her acting career, with literally every film she starred in having some amount of awards season buzz. Now she's set to star alongside the always great Naomi Watts in The Grandmothers, from French director Anne Fontaine(Coco Before Chanel).
Based on the acclaimed novel by Nobel Prize winning author, Doris Lessing, the story centers on two lifelong friends who fall in love with each other's teenage sons. Yeah, that'll put a strain on your relationship. I imagine that made girls' night out a little awkward. The screenplay was adapted by Christopher Hampton, who won an Academy Award back in 1988 for Dangerous Liaisons. Xavier Samuel(The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) and James Frecheville(Animal Kingdom) will play the two young studs who score with the two cougars. Lucky bastards.
For Wright, this continues what has been an amazing year, arguably the best of her career. It started with her performance as Mary Surrat in Robert Redford's The Conspirator. Since then she has been featured in Moneyball opposite Brad Pitt; Rampart starring Woody Harrelson; and later this month she'll be make out with Daniel Craig in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. [THR]
