Rumor: Sofia Coppola planning film on The Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch

You'd think TMZ wouldn't exactly be a fountain of truthful information, the gossip site is actually pretty accurate when it comes to leaking upcoming film productions. Still, I'll take this with a grain of salt until I hear something more concrete. The site reports that Sofia Coppola is planning a film on The Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch, a group of fame obsessed teens who gained notoriety in 2008-2009 for a string of robberies committed against celebrities. Sounds awesome.

Also known as the Bling Ring, the group stole north of $3M from various celebrities, mostly from Paris Hilton but also including Orlando Bloom, Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green, and Rachel Bilson. Their circle of seven included Alexis Neiers, who some poor folks will know from the E! reality series, Pretty Wild. She was actually filming that god awful show while a member of the group. She plead "no contest"and was sentenced to six months in jail, but since it was Hollywood she was out in a month. Guess who she got to spend the last  few days of her sentence with? Lindsay Lohan, one of the gang's victims.

The interesting aspect to this story is that Tess Taylor, Neiers' sister and co-star on Pretty Wild, is supposedly up for a role in the film. That'll make for some interesting dinner conversation.Taylor has been attempting to make the jump into acting for some time, appearing alongside her sister in the straight-to-DVD film, Frat Party, which you'll be surprised to learn was not nominated for anything in 2009.

I hope this story pans out, because Coppola is arguably my favorite filmmaker right now, and she's done some great things with stories on celebrity before. In fact, all three of her most recent films, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, and Somewhere all examine it from fresh angles.
