Trailer Time: Wrong, directed by Quentin Dupieux
I know a lot of people loved the quirkiness and the "Who cares"? mentality at the center of Quentin Dupieux's murderous tire flick, Rubber. Personally I couldn't stand it, and found it to be one of those movies people claim to really adore but can't explain why. It was a film so proud of how "clever" it was that nobody seemed to notice that it died once the concept ran dry.
With that said, I have some interest in his follow-up feature simply because he may do something wild that actually connects. His next film is called Wrong, and if Rubber was about not asking too many questions, this film is persistent in trying to figure out "Why?
Why what? Well, the trailer doesn't do much but show us the wacky assemblage of talent Dupieux has pulled together, which immediately sets it apart from the unknowns he had in Rubber. There's a scarred up William Fichtner, the always welcome Alexis Dziena(she and Fichtner both were regulars on Entourage), Steve Little(Eastbound & Down), and Jack Plotnick. The tone appears just as far out as you'd expect, with the story centered on a guy who runs into a number of crazy characters while trying to find his dog.
Wrong will turn up at the Sundance Film Festival in January, but for now check out the trailer, followed by the plot....
