Rapper T.I. joins Tom Cruise in 'All You Need is Kill'

Well, as far as rappers turned actors go, T.I.(Cliff Harris) has had the typical wobbly start to his acting career. It began with ATL, ostensibly an ode to his hometown of Atlanta but is probably best left forgotten by its residents. He had a small role in American Gangster, and wasn't all that bad in it, to be honest. His biggest claim to fame would be Takers, the silky smooth heist film which he also exec-produced. So he's already worked with some of the biggest names in the business in Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington, and now he's going for the  trifecta by joining Tom Cruise in Doug Liman's adaptation of All You Need is Kill.

Forbes caught up with T.I. at SXSW and he hinted at doing a movie with Liman and Cruise. Hmmm...what could he POSSIBLY mean? Actually, since it's still unclear whether the sci-fi film will go by the original title or the more recent title of We Mortals Are, he probably wasn't sure what to call it. The story comes from  Hiroshi Sakurazaka's light sci-fi novel which is sorta like Source Code meets Groundhog Day. Cruise will star as a new recruit in a war against an alien force, caught in a time loop that forces him to relive the day he died in battle over and over again. As he experiences his death repeatedly, he becomes a better soldier along the way.

T.I.'s role is unclear, but it's probably another soldier in the fight. He's the first bit of casting outside of Cruise, so it's possible we'll be hearing more in the coming days.
