Renowned cinematographer Wally Pfister to make directorial debut

Take a look at the crew of almost any of the most beautifully shot films of the last decade, especially those by Christopher Nolan, and you're probably going to see the name Wally Pfister listed somewhere as cinematographer. Over the course of his career, with his first feature back in 1991, Pfister has been nominated four times for Academy Awards, finally winning for Inception. One thing he hasn't done is direct his own film, and now he's about to get that chance.

Pfister is set to make his debut in a film that Alcon Entertainment is keeping under lock and key right now, which makes me think it's something pretty special. All we know is that the script comes from Jack Paglen, and that it'll shoot in the fall. What's the big secret?

The Dark Knight Rises will be the next blockbuster film to feature Pfister's work, opening on July 20th. He also had a hand in Marley, the Bob Marley documentary by Kevin MacDonald which will open in April. Pfister also served as cinematographer on Moneyball, starring Brad Pitt.
