Woody Harrelson snags the villain role in 'Out of the Furnace'

Isn't The Hunger Games enough to keep Woody Harrelson busy? Fortunately for us all, no it isn't, and he's just attached himself to the increasingly impressive looking Out of the Furnace, by Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper.

Already boasting Christian Bale, Casey Affleck, Sam Shepard, and Zoe Saldana, Harrelson is stepping into the villain role that Billy Bob Thornton was circling awhile back. There's still no word on whether Forest Whitaker has nailed down a part as a sleazy bookie in the film, a revenge tale written by Brad Inglesby. Bale stars as Russell, a man who along with his brother Rodney wants to escape their depressed surroundings, but finds himself thrown in prison after a cruel twist of fate. When Affleck's character gets involved with a violent crime ring, Bale gets out of jail to seek revenge on those who harmed him. Harrelson's character is Curtis DeGoat, the man who lured Rodney into a life of crime.

An incredible year for Harrelson continues as filming is set to begin later this month. Along with The Hunger Games, he's received some of the best praise of his career for his role as a corrupt cop in Rampart. He'll also turn up later this year in the crime comedy, Seven Psychopaths, and next year as part of the illusionist heist flick, Now You See Me. Oh, and let's not forget he'll reprise his role as Haymitch when Catching Fire starts shooting this fall.  [Variety]
