Warner Brothers is hoping Beautiful Creatures has the right mix of ingredients to be their next Harry Potter franchise. Whether the book targets the young adult demo or not, clearly the studio has those aims. By casting mostly unknowns in Alden Ehrenreich(Tetro) and Alice Englert as the leads, it's clear they're hoping to build some new stars in the process.
EW has revealed the first image from the film, currently filming in New Orleans. Based on the 1st book in the Castor Chronicles series written by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, the southern set, supernatural love story follows Ethan(Ehrenreich) and Lena(Englert), two star-crossed lovers who discover dark secrets about themselves, their families, and their town.
Richard LaGravanese(P.S. I Love You) adapted the novel and is directing, with a supporting cast that includes Viola Davis, Emmy Rossum, Kyle Gallner, Emma Thompson, and Jeremy Irons. Beautiful Creatures is expected to open next year on February 1st.
