Finally! Sharlto Copley takes the villain lead in 'Oldboy'
No need to dawdle on this one. After being made an offer to take on the "villain" role in Spike Lee's Oldboy remake, Sharlto Copley has been confirmed for the part. Well it's about friggin' time.
This comes after the film had hit a snag with both Colin Firth and Clive Owen passing, leaving Josh Brolin as the only confirmed star at the time. A remake of sorts to Park Chan-Wook's crazy classic, the story follows Joe Douchet, who is kidnapped under mysterious circumstances and held captive for fifteen years. When he's suddenly set free by his captors, Joe immediately seeks revenge. Copley will play Adrian Pryce, a billionaire seeking to destroy Joe's life. They had just as little luck casting the female lead, with Mia Wasikowska and and Rooney Mara rejecting it before Elizabeth Olsen was made an offer at the end of February.
Copley will be pretty busy, having just signed on to star in Open Grave, in which he'll play a man who wakes up in a pit full of dead bodies, and unsure of how he got there, begins to have flashbacks of murdering people. Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego(Apollo 18) will direct. [Deadline]
