Hey, remember two weeks ago when Francis Lawrence was offered the directing job on The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire? This won't come as any surprise, but he's accepted the job and is officially on board to take over for Gary Ross, who departed the lucrative franchise.
Lawrence makes for an interesting choice, but a fitting one. Catching Fire should be vastly different than The Hunger Games was, with an increased emphasis on the futuristic glitz of the Capitol. The story will also heavily center on the love triangle between Katniss(Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta(Josh Hutcherson), and Gale(Liam Hemsworth), so the skill Lawrence showed in a character project like Water for Elephants should come into play just as much as his technical ability with I Am Legend.
Author Suzanne Collins and Simon Beaufoy are currently working on the script, with filming to begin this fall for a November 22nd 2013 release.
