No 'Scary Movie 5' for Anna Faris
We've come to recognize Anna Faris as a great comedic talent, but I'm betting that nobody thought she'd amount to much of anything if they saw her in the first Scary Movie film. That's where most first took notice of her, and she was mostly overshadowed by the Wayans Brothers. She soon become the centerpiece of the franchise, and more often than not the only reason to ever pay attention to them after they stopped being funny, which was around.....oh....Scary Movie 2? Now as Dimension Films preps Scary Movie 5, Faris appears to have outgrown playing the dim-witted Cindy Campbell.
While talking to ComingSoon about her upcoming role in The Dictator, Faris was asked about Scary Movie 5, and doesn't sound like she's keen on coming back....
Faris: "No, I don't think I'm going to do it. I don't think I'm part of that. I don't know exactly what's happening with it, but I hear it's sort of in the works and stuff."
Can't really fault her for moving on. Not only is she established enough to lead much better, more credible films than Scary Movie, but Dimension has pretty much bungled its development from the start. After being announced back in 2009, the film was given a release date of April 20th 2012. Then no work on it was done at all. No script, no casting, no director. The release date came and went, and now only in the last few weeks was Malcolm Lee(Undercover Brother) hired to direct it, and a new release date set for January 11th 2013.
Without her, the franchise loses its biggest dose of starpower, which I'm guessing they'll make up for with a slew of celebrity cameos. And y'never know, there's always the chance Faris could show up for a brief appearance herself, maybe to pass the baton to her best friend in the film, played by Regina Hall? Hall has worked with Lee in the past, so it would seem like a natural fit.
