A second teaser for Paul Thomas Anderson's 'The Master'

Paul Thomas Anderson and The Weinstein Company have done things the right way in building up anticipation for the auteur's next film, The Master. After an initial blast of attention in the beginning thanks to the film's Scientology-based plot, quietly the attention has simply focused on what appears to be Joaquin Phoenix's triumphant return, and the Oscar-worthy cast the director has put together. The first teaser for the film was a carefully constructed piece of art focusing on Phoenix's character, Freddie Quell, an ex-military man turned alcoholic under a line of increasingly sensitive questioning of some sort. Now a second teaser has emerged, and it pulls the curtain back just a little bit more.

These brief trailers are really more like clips, giving us a deeper insight into the world Anderson has created. While Freddie is still very much at the center of this one, skulking around and sneaking away in a truck for some reason, we also meet Philip Seymour Hoffman's character, Lancaster Dodd. As the titular 'master' of the film, it's his charismatic presence that ultimately turns Freddie's life around for the better. We also get a brief bit with Amy Adams as Dodd's wife, who along with her husband seems to have taken a unique interest in Freddie.

All of what Anderson fans have come to know and love about his style are there in this clip: the vintage look, the revolving 180 degree camera shots, and his trademark metronome musical score. The Master isn't due to come out until October 12th, so expect more amazing clips like this to keep the anticipation boiling....[BAD]
