The Expendables 2 is right around the corner, but the first solo action film Arnold Schwarzenegger will tackle is The Last Stand. It sounds like the perfect comeback movie for him, and a nice homage to the violent thrillers he was the king of before he left to ruin California. Arnold plays an ex-LAPD cop who leaves the force in disgrace, and takes on what he thinks will be a quiet small town Sheriff job. Eduardo Noriega plays a drug cartel leader, who along with his gang of armed goons, is making a mad dash for the border with only the Sheriff and his small team of cops standing in the way.
I'm not quite sure why they chose such a cartoony first poster, revealed on the floor of Comic-Con last week, as it seems to undercut the violent and gritty tone of the film. Then again it's directed by Kim Ji-Woon(I Saw the Devil, The Good the Bad the Weird), who specializes in wildly over the top action with a comedic twist.
Jaime Alexander, Genesis Rodriguez, Johnny Knoxville, Forest Whitaker, Peter Stormare, Luis Guzman, Rodrigo Santoro, and Zach Gilford co-star. The Last Stand hits theaters on January 18th 2013. [Twitter]
