Gary Ross in talks to direct 'Peter and the Starcatchers'

When last we caught up with Disney's planned adaptation of the Peter Pan prequel, Peter and the Starcatchers, they had tapped Jesse Wigutow(Eragon) to start work on the screenplay. Based on the 5-book series by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Disney clearly has franchise hopes, and so now they've got a director who specializes in just that.

THR reports that Gary Ross, fresh off jumpstarting The Hunger Games franchise, is in talks to direct the film. The story takes place before J.M. Barrie's classic story, and has Peter Pan, his gang of Lost Boys, and a girl named Molly trying to keep the greatest treasure on earth out of the hands of Black Stache, who happens to be Captain Hook before he loses his hand.  Besides just the five books, Peter and the Starcatchers has also been adapted into a successful Broadway play.

Ross already has the Houdini biopic lined up, and was mentioned for a possible Tarzan adaptation which may or may not come to be. So it's unclear when this film would go into production.
