Johnny Depp joins Wes Anderson's next film, 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'
It was just over a week ago that we started to hear some rumors about Wes Anderson's next film, and who he was eagerly pursuing to be a part of it. While many of the names were familiar ones for the director, such as Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, and Bill Murray, there were a handful of surprising new ones. Now it appears those rumors were true, as Deadline confirms that Johnny Depp has joined the cast, teaming up with Anderson for the first time ever.
Not only that, but we also have a title for the film: The Grand Budapest Hotel. Ok, yeah, that sounds like a Wes Anderson movie. Or possibly a sequel to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. We don't know much about the plot at this point, except that Owen Wilson will be involved, and it'll be based in Europe. The other names being bandied about are Angela Lansbury, Jude Law, Willem Dafoe, and Jeff Goldblum. Frankly, I'm just happy to see Depp doing something where Tim Burton or Gore Verbinski isn't involved. The grass can be greener, Mr. Depp. Seriously.
Anderson's still riding high on the success of Moonrise Kingdom, which has earned over $40M without cracking 1,000 theaters domestically. It still has a ways to go to catch up with his biggest grosser, The Royal Tenenbaums, which took in $71M back in 2001.
