Kate Hudson, Eva Mendes, Danny McBride and more join Larry David's improv comedy 'Clear History'
There have been a lot of eyes on Larry David and Greg Mottola's upcoming comedy film, and for very good reason. For one thing, the mostly improvisational approach is something David has mastered on his HBO sitcom, Curb Your Enthusiasm. And with a cast including Michael Keaton and Jon Hamm, he would have two comedic heavyweights to play off of. We finally got a look at what the plot would entail just a few weeks ago, but now we're getting a little more, along with the film's title and who else will be joining the growing ensemble.
The Wrap reports that the film is now officially titled Clear History, and now has Kate Hudson, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Eva Mendes, Amy Ryan, Philip Baker Hall, and David's 'Curb' buddy JB Smoove as part of the cast. That's an incredible line-up, especially if we get to see Smoove and David go at it the way they have over the last few years.
David stars as Nathan Fromm, a misanthropic marketing exec for an electric car company who loses everything due to a petty argument with his rival and boss, Will Haney.(Hamm). Years later, Nathan's life is ruined, and he's living on Martha's Vineyard under the new name of Rolly DaVore. Meanwhile, Will has become a great success, and when he returns to the island to renovate his summer home, Nathan sees it as a chance for payback. Michael Keaton plays Joe Stump, the eccentric and erratic owner of a quarry, with Hader as his henchman. Ryan will play Nathan's ex-girlfriend, with McBride as his best friend. Smoove will play a man who blames Nathan for the end of his relationship, while Mendes is a woman who takes an off-handed suggestion too seriously. Hall will play the foreman of a construction project who is duped by Nathan. Nothing on Hudson's character at this point, but most of these sound like glorified cameos, much like what we often get on 'Curb'.
There's still no ninth season of 'Curb' on the horizon, so fans of David's acerbic wit will likely flock to Clear History to get a taste of it. The film will open on HBO presumably some time next year.
