Oscar watch!! Whether the film is any good or not, Tommy Lee Jones' second feature film as a director(he's done a couple of TV movies) certainly has all the trappings of a future Academy favorite. We first learned about the pioneer-era film The Homesman last spring, and now as it's set to be pitched to investors, they'll probably find it an easy sell as Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Hilary Swank have come aboard. Sold!
Jones will not only direct, but write the script and star as an outlaw who joins with a pioneer woman(Swank) to escort three mentally unstable women from Iowa to Nebraska, braving the elements and other hurdles along the way. We don't know what Streep's role is yet, but she must've really hit it off working with Jones on Hope Springs. That film proved to be a hit with the older set, so there's another feather in the reps' caps as they try to sell The Homesman at the American Film Market.
I was a huge fan of Jones' The Three Burials of Melquiadas Estrada, and his adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Sunset Limited was strong as well. So even without Streep and Swank this would have been a film worth noting.[TheWrap]
