Warner Bros. certainly seemed to be gearing us up for the release of something major in regards to Beautiful Creatures after dropping a bunch of photos on us earlier today. And now here it is as the new trailer and poster have emerged, and Twilight fans may want to stand up and take notice.
Based on the young adult series of books by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, Beautiful Creatures stars Alice Englert and Alden Ehrenreich as Lena and Ethan, two star-crossed teen lovers who discover their families share a secret, supernatural connection. I like the southern fantasy look director Richard LaGravanese has brought to the film, bearing some resemblances to his Water for Elephants. But anybody who isn't already familiar with the books is probably going to be lost. What's up with Emmy Rossum, who plays Lena's cousin Ridley? Why does the young and charismatic Ehrenreich seem to have studied at the Robert Pattinson school for boring tortured heroes?
With Summit and Lionsgate already owning a big chunk of the tween market, this is probably the best shot Warner Bros. has clearing themselves a little room. Beautiful Creatures opens next year on February 13th....
