Ewan McGregor and Kate Hudson to star in rom-com 'Born to be King'
Is there any actress more closely associated with the awful state of romantic comedies than Kate Hudson? She's done so many terrible ones over the years that it's hard to remember her in anything else. It's a shame, really, because because we she ventures out of her comfort zone she's quite good. The Killer Inside Me, The Skeleton Key, Almost Famous....these are solid films and she was a large part of the reason why. Do we even pay attention any more when we learn she's got a new rom-com coming up? We might want to take notice of this next one.
Variety reports that Hudson will star with Ewan McGregor in Born to be King, from writer/director Peter Capaldi. We all know McGregor's qualifications already, and he's been dabbling more in this genre lately with Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and Beginners. But Capaldi is less well-known, and you'll likely best remember him for his role as the scathing and vulgar spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in the political satire In the Loop.
Hopefully Capaldi will bring some bite to a story that sounds awfully bland. McGregor will play an extra who bears a striking resemblance to a famous movie star, while Hudson is a starlet feuding with her co-star. Presumably they will cross paths and cause all sorts of headaches before falling in love. Filming begins in January.
