1st trailer for 'The Numbers Station' with John Cusack and Malin Akerman
Was Nicolas Cage on vacation or something? Because The Numbers Station definitely looks like something that has his name written all over it. Instead, we get John Cusack in the first of what is a jam-packed 2013 for him, playing a CIA agent in a rather generic action-thriller. Further solidifying that this must have been written with Cage in mind, it even stars Malin Akerman, his co-star in last year's terrible (and largely ignored) Stolen.
Danish filmmaker Kasper Barfoed directs the film, based on a script by F. Scott Frazier, which has Cusack as agent attempting to redeem himself by protecting a code operator at a "numbers station". When an elite squad attacks them and compromises the station, they must fight to survive against an unknown threat.
It sounds like a twist on the Safe House premise, which is hardly something worth emulating. I'm a big fan of Cusack and Akerman, but I'm not sure either of them can make this interesting. The Numbers Station opens on April 26th. Check out the trailer below....
