Josh Boone to direct 'The Fault in Our Stars'; Shailene Woodley may star

If you were paying attention to certain folks on Twitter last weekend, then you may have seen the edges of this story starting to round into shape. It began with The Fault in Our Stars author John Green tweeting that a major announcement about the book was on the way. This was then retweeted by Shailene Woodley (The Descendants), leading many to speculate on her potential involvement in an adaptation. While Woodley has yet to be confirmed for anything just yet, we do know the film is headed to theaters and exactly who will be directing it.

Josh Boone, whose ensemble comedy Writers hits theaters in April, will helm an adaptation of The Fault in Our Stars, Green's best-selling hit about Hazel Lancaster, a terminally ill girl who falls in love with a sick boy in her support group. THR says that Woodley hasn't been offered a deal for the lead role, but she is definitely in the running along with Hailee Steinfeld. Woodley may have a leg up, though, as the script comes from Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who worked with her on The Spectacular Now.

The plan is for filming to begin this summer, so hopefully Woodley's busy schedule won't stand in the way. She'll be swinging into Peter Parker's life as Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and also is attached to star in an adaptation of YA novel, Divergent.
