Argo:
Every year there seem to be two types of movies that all Oscar buzz revolves around, those that are actually amazing films and those that the average person can't quite understand what the big deal is. Argo is definitely the former. I would say the best film all around of any in Oscar contention, at a minimum it's the most exciting movie going expierence of the group. The fact that this film is based on a true story does not take away even a bit from the suspense. We know how it ends, this is true... but the story unfolds in a way that keeps us wondering, "Is everything going to be ok?"
BUY
Anna Karenina:
In a first for the young actress Kiera Knightley stars in a period piece. Did I say first? I meant 57th. Sarcasm aside this remake of a remake is probably the least of the lot when it comes to Knightley's penchant for period drama. The film stands only as a canvas to display some admittedly beautiful costumes and sets. Outside of a bit of eye candy there isn't much of anything to note from this film.

Fun Size:
For some reason I thought Fun Size was going to be this year's Sex Drive, a small indie comedy that would develop a cult following based solely on awesomeness. I apparently hadn't done my research. For one, the Nickelodeon brand right there on the cover should tell you what you need to know concerning the level of raunchy comedy. This flick really kind of sat between wanting to be a cutesy kids flick and something more adult. Much like its awkward 13-15 year old audience this film is tough to watch.

Undefeated:
A documentary that follows three inner city Memphis youths and their volunteer football coach is a real world story of inspiration and perseverance. If you find yourself wanting to watch one of the countless "Teacher saves inner city kids from their selves and each other" type movies opt instead for Undefeated. The fact that the events in this film are/were actually taking place makes the impact that much more.
