Scott Hicks to direct YA adaptation 'Fallen'

Does every young adult novel end up on the best seller list? It sure seems that way, and it's that consistently large audience for pretty much everything the genre has to offer which has Hollywood snapping up the film rights at a rapid clip. The latest to be brought to the big screen is Lauren Kate's 2009 book, Fallen, and it's got an Oscar-nominated director now on board.

Scott Hicks, who was nominated for Best Director for Shine back in 1996, has signed on to helm the feature, based on the first of four books in the series. Franchise!!!  Written by The Game Plan duo of Kathryn Price and Nichole Millard, the southern-set romance follows 17 year-old Lucinda, who gets enters into a love triangle with two boys who are revealed to be angels. There's also some stuff about reincarnation and eventually there will be a big battle between the good and evil angels because that's just kind of what happens in books like these.

Hicks last directed The Lucky One with Zac Efron, and and previously helmed the cooking rom-com No Reservations, so he knows his way around sappy romances.
