The Sunday Drive 2/24/13: The Oscar Edition
Tonight's the Academy Awards, and since the new releases this week were terrible, let's instead pick the three Oscar contenders still in theaters worth your time and money. Plus, since today is my birthday (all gifts are welcome!), this is an easy way for me to take it easy and relax until the show begins.
3. Argo
The Best Picture contender has been re-released in many cities to capitalize on the awards season buzz. If it's in your town, check out Ben Affleck's most confident directorial effort yet, a pulse-pounding political thriller with a phenomenal ensemble cast. And since it also hit store shelves last Tuesday, it's also our DVD Pick of the Week. Get your copy now!
2. Zero Dark Thirty
It's slipped in the eyes of many Oscar voters, and the controversy surrounding it may ruin any hopes of an Oscar victory, Kathryn Bigelow's smart and gripping "war on terror" film is going to be remembered for years to come.
1. Silver Linings Playbook
No other film has more momentum than David O. Russell's crowd-pleasing Silver Linings Playbook, which could score victories for stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, as well as for Best Director and Best Picture.
