We may get a 'Jack Reacher' sequel, after all
Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher didn't amount to much over here, looking like the actor had taken his Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol buzz and squandered it. Domestically still hovering around the $80M mark, the film has done gangbusters internationally, with the worldwide receipts cracking $200M. For the record, that's Cruise's 19th film to break that barrier. Simply incredible. Turns out that's enough to get Paramount thinking about a sequel.
Just last month, we heard that the film would need to break $250M for a follow-up to be considered, but it appears the standards have been lowered. In a recent Deadline article about the film, they say this...
"Studios are all about franchise building, and some take off financially on the second go-around… I am hearing that they are already figuring out the sequel at Paramount and Skydance."
Jack Reacher was absolutely ridiculous, but in a way that's at least entertaining. It was well-made and well-acted, so hopefully they can find a way to re-team Cruise with director Christopher McQuarrie. It probably depends on whether he's too busy prepping Mission: Impossible 5. Jack Reacher was based on the 9th of Lee Child's novels, so who knows where they'd pull from for a sequel.
