First trailer for 'R.I.P.D.' is 'Hellboy' meets 'Men in Black'
The buzz on comic book adaptation R.I.P.D. has been so low that it would be more accurate to say the film has no buzz at all. Despite opening right in the thick of the summer season, and two well-liked stars in Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, there doesn't seem to be a lot in the way of studio support. But that could be about to change as the first trailer has emerged, and it actually looks pretty good.
Renolds stars as Nick Cruz, an undead cop zapped into the Rest in Peace Department after he's mysteriously murdered. Mary-Louise Parker plays the chief who partners Nick with the equally dead Old West gunslinger, Roy Pulsifer, assigning them to keep any number of monstrous goons from messing with the human world. "This world is for the living, and the R.I.P.D. will keep it that way". Along the way they'll also seek out Nick's killer, but that aspect of the story is curiously left out, including any glimpse of Kevin Bacon as the villain.
Combining elements of Men in Black and Hellboy, R.I.P.D. could be a sleeper hit for director Robert Schwentke (Red) when it opens on July 19th.
