New photos from 'Man of Steel'; Zack Snyder talks Kryptonite
It'll come as no surprise to anyone familiar with Christopher Nolan's modus operandi that we know next to nothing about Man of Steel. Although he's only in a producer role, his influence is all over the Zack Snyder-directed Superman film, both in terms of its melancholic tone and the way details have been held in secret. But as we're only two months away from it hitting theaters, we're starting to learn a bit more, starting with the role Kryptonite has to play.
Entertainment Weekly has unveiled a batch of new photos which give us a great new look at Michael Shannon as the villainous General Zod, along with Antje Traue as fellow Kryptonian powerhouse, Faora. Pretty much every major character is on display, from Henry Cavill's Superman to Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and even Russell Crowe as Jor-El.
But what is sure to turn a few heads is the interview with Snyder in which he reveals that Krptonite, the one element that can bring Superman to his knees with weakness, isn't even in the film. That suggests all of those scenes we saw in the trailer of an imprisoned Superman were voluntary on his part. While this will probably come as an unwelcome surprise to many, it's likely that Kryptonite is being held for future films when Lex Luthor plays a larger role.
Kryptonite or no Kryptonite, Man of Steel is easily the biggest superhero film of the summer, and will go a long way in setting Warner Bros. future comics-related plans. It'll arrive faster than a speeding bullet on June 14th.
