The rather public failure of South Korean directors Park Chan-Wook (Stoker) and Kim Ji-Woon (The Last Stand) to make a splash with their English language debuts hasn't dulled the enthusiasm for Bong Joon-Ho's epic sci-fi film, Snow Piercer. The film, which coincidentally includes Chan-Wook as a producer, boasts a terrific international ensemble led by Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Chris Evans, Alison Pill, Song Kang-Ho, Octavia Spencer, and Ewen Bremner. It's expected to emerge as part of the line-up at Cannes when the announcement is made in just a few days, but for now we've got some cool new posters to tide us over.
Based on the French graphic novel, Le Transperceneige, the story is set in a future in which the Earth has been left in an eternal winter after a terrible natural disaster, and what's left of humanity exits in turmoil upon a perpetually-moving train. The transformation much of the cast have undergone for the film are what's most striking, but none more so than Swinton who is practically unrecognizable.
Snow Piercer doesn't have a release date yet, but The Weinstein Company has the rights and will unveil it soon....hopefully. That summer 2013 release date may only be for Korea.
