New clips from 'Now You See Me' and 'After Earth'
We just put up a handful of clips from some of the most intriguing indie films coming down the pike, so it's only fair to do the same for the ones that will actually play in front of packed theaters, right? The month of May is arguably the most stacked of the entire year, and on its final weekend will come one of the more intriguing blockbuster match-ups of the summer season. On May 31st we'll see who wins out between two star-powered films: Louis Leterrier's Now You See Me, and After Earth starring Will Smith. Which one will you turn out for that day? Two clips have been released to perhaps help you decide.
The opening four minutes from Now You See Me hit the web a few days ago, and this new clip takes place almost immediately thereafter. Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, and Dave Franco are a team of illusionists known as the Four Horsemen, who use their act to stage some pretty incredible bank robberies. As you'll be able to see, there's a suggestion that something beyond simple hocus pocus is going on because they've got some wicked technology, as well. The cast is stacked with Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Melanie Laurent, and Mark Ruffalo co-starring.
And then there's After Earth, which reunites father/son duo Will and Jaden Smith for the first time since The Pursuit of Happyness. The summer is usually owned by Will any time he bothers to put something out (he occasionally goes years without lifting a finger), and this will be a serious test to his continued bankability. For one thing, there are much bigger movies to contend with, and After Earth has to overcome the stigma of director M. Night Shyamalan, who many think of as a joke. The elder Smith plays a legendary military commander who crash lands on a deserted and dangerous Earth with his son, who is forced to make the treacherous journey to activate a signal beacon.
