1st Look at Michael Rooker in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'; Ronan the Accuser is Primary Villain

Although a good deal of footage was revealed at Comic-Con, filming on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is still in the early stages. Various set photos have been hitting the web showing many of the extraterrestrial creatures that will be populating the offbeat flick, and now we're getting a look at one of the major characters, The Walking Dead's Michael Rooker as Yondu.

The images show Rooker sporting blue skin, purple mohawk, and probably a sour disposition. They've tweaked the character's look a great deal, changing his costume and haircut, and it makes me wonder what else about the character is being changed. Will he be a villain or one of the team's allies? In the comics, he's  In the photos he seems to either be investigating wreckage from a crash, or has just survived one.

And speaking of villains, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige spoke to Empire about the film's baddies, revealing that it won't be Thanos giving the team headaches as many thought. Instead it will be Lee Pace's Ronan the Accuser...

Feige: “Ronan The Accuser is very much the main bad guy. And Thanos is lurking above it all. You will learn more about Thanos in Guardians, for sure. Certainly you’ll get more than the one turn around and smirk. You’ll get much more than that!”

He went on to add that it takes place at the same time as the other Phase Two films, and will be connected to them mainly through the presence of Thanos. It sounds like Marvel is planning on holding Thanos to be the major villain for The Avengers 3, and he'll be lurking behind everything up until then.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens on August 1st 2014. [SuperheroHype]
