First Footage from 'Divergent' Starring Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet

Those who attended Comic-Con got an extensive look at Neil Burger's adaptation of Veronica Roth's bestselling YA novel, Divergent, which many have pegged as being the next 'Hunger Games'. But there are just as many who see that as a potential obstacle, as comparisons are likely to follow it until the film hits theaters next year. To be honest, my first impression after watching that footage was that it resembled The Hunger Games from a visual standpoint, and Woodley's character seemed to share some of the same qualities as Jennifer Lawrence's.  Fans will be able to judge how faithful the film is when the trailer hits in just a few days, but for now a brief teaser will have to suffice.

MTV has dropped a glimpse of the trailer, which will be presented in full on Sunday during the Video Music Awards. Woodley plays Tris, a girl living in a future version of Chicago where humanity has been divided into five factions based on ideology. Tris turns out to be a "Divergent", one who doesn't fit into any category, and soon she uncovers a plot to destroy others just like her. Kate Winslet, Theo James, Miles Teller, Jai Courtney, Ashley Judd, Tony Goldwyn, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, and Ansel Elgort co-star.

Divergent hits theaters March 21st 2014.
