Teaser for 'Monsters' Sequel 'Monsters: Dark Continent'

The success of Gareth Edwards' small-budget, big payoff debut film Monsters has him now in a much wider arena, directing Godzilla for Warner Bros. Even though he's moved on, that didn't stop Vertigo Films from pushing ahead with their plans, courting the idea of a TV series and setting television vet John Green (Misfits) to helm a sequel, titled Monsters: Dark Continent, and now we're getting a glimpse at what he has in store.

With Monsters star Scoot McNairy also jumping to bigger things (he's producing along with Edwards), the cast of 'Dark Continent' consists of  Johnny Harris (Welcome to the Punch) Sam Keeley (What Richard Did) and Joe Dempsie (Game Of Thrones), and judging by the trailer we can expect a larger military presence, but the real locations and ominous tone remain. Jay Basu's script is described as a "continuation" of Edwards' film rather than a sequel, so hopefully they won't fiddle around with what worked the last time.

Monsters: Dark Continent should hit theaters in 2014.
