First Trailer for 'Homefront' Starring James Franco and Jason Statham
Already this year we've seen James Franco take in a criminal-minded Selena Gomez in Spring Breakers, battle the apocalypse in This Is The End, and take on William Faulkner's unfilmmable novel As I Lay Dying. After all that it appears he's finally met his match as he tussles with Jason Statham in Homefront. Place your bets, folks.
It's the showdown we never knew we wanted, but boy is the trailer a generic slog. Statham does what Statham does, playing an undercover DEA agent who moves his over daughter to a small town, only to discover that a druglord named Gator (Franco) is running things. Despite the air raid siren soundtrack this is an extremely dull trailer, with Franco seeming disinterested and not showing any of the "quirkiness" Statham has been talking about. And as for him, Statham gets to punch and kick people, which could be fun but makes for a lousy promo in this case. The film was penned by his 'Expendables' buddy Sylvester Stallone, who seems to at least know how to play up to Statham's strengths.
Directed by Gary Fleder and featuring Frank Grillo, Winona Ryder, and Kate Bosworth, Homefront opens on November 27th.
