Returning 'Step Up 5' Cast Confirmed, and Channing Tatum's Not On It

A few months ago there was a minor ripple in the dance movie world when plans were revealed to have past stars return for Step Up 5. Of course that led everyone to speculate (hope?) Channing Tatum would be amongst them, considering he's shown a willingness to return to the franchise before, appearing in both Step Up and Step Up 2: The Streets. It turns out Tatum won't be coming back, and neither will his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum, but practically everybody else will.

Briana Evigan of Step Up 2 and Ryan Guzman of the politically-themed Step Up Revolution will lead Step Up 5, which has yet to gain its "clever" subtitle. Maybe 'Step Up 5 x 5'? 'Step Up 5 on the Black Hand Side'?  Anyway, they'll be joined by the guy who has starred in the most Step Up films, Adam "Moose" Sevani, and the awesome Alyson "Camille" Stoner. Yeah, they're the only two characters from the franchise I ever really liked, so it's cool to see them back again, even though Moose never really left.  And of course that cheesy slo-mo robot dude is back, because what else is he going to do? Here's the rest of the extensive returning rundown....

Eddy: Misha Gabriel (Step Up: Revolution)
Jason: Stephen 'tWitch' Boss (Step Up 3D, Step Up: Revolution)
Jenny Kido: Mari Koda (Step Up 2 The Streets, Step Up 3D, Step Up: Revolution)
Hair: Chris Scott (Step Up 2 The Streets, Step Up 3D)
Monster: Luis Rosado (Step Up 2 The Streets, Step Up 3D)
Vladd aka Robot Guy: Chadd Smith (Step Up 3D, Step Up: Revolution)
The Santiago Twins: Martin Lombard & Facundo Lombard (Step Up 3D)

THE MOB (dancers)
Marc 'Marvelous' Inniss (Step Up: Revolution)
Nolan Padilla (Step Up: Revolution)
Phillip Chbeeb (Step Up: Revolution)
Bianca Brewton (Step Up: Revolution)
Tony Bellissimo (Step Up 3D, Step Up: Revolution)
Josue 'Beastmode' Figueroa (Step Up 3D, Step Up: Revolution)
Brandy Lamkim (Step Up 2 The Streets, Step Up: Revolution)

Grammy award-winning choreographer Trish Sie will take over as director, with filming set to begin in just over a week. What the heck kind of slapdash story can they come up with to bring all of these vanilla characters together? Maybe they'll use the power of dance to stop WWIII? Or stop a planet-destroying asteroid?
