Peter Dinklage Lands Untitled Comedy; John Magaro In 'Unbroken'; Onata Aprile Joins 'Scout'
* Peter Dinklage's breakout has obviously been in HBO's Game of Thrones, but he was a favorite of many long before that on the big screen, especially loved for his leading role in The Station Agent. He's starred in a number of comedies since then and is about to take on one more, landing an untitled R-rated comedy from Andrew Dodge, writer of Jason Bateman's directorial debut, Bad Words. The edgy tone is said to be similar to Bad Santa, and rumors are that the story will center on a man who tells people he's a leprechaun.
* I wasn't overly impressed with David Chase's Not Fade Away, and nor was I all that fond of star John Magaro, but perhaps his next film will change my mind. He's signed on to Angelina Jolie's WWII drama Unbroken, about former Olympian and tortured POW Louis Zamperini. Jack O'Connell is in the lead role, with Magaro playing Frank Tinker, an Air Force pilot and opera singer who befriends Zamperini on the way to the Japanese POW camp. The film co-stars Garrett Hedlund, Alex Russell, and Domhnall Gleeson. [Deadline]
* Onata Aprile, who gave a remarkable performance beyond her young years in What Maisie Knew, will next join a coming-of-age dramedy with a terrific cast. She'll join Nikki Reed, Ellen Burstyn, James Frecheville, and India Ennenga in Scout. Written and directed by Laurie Weltz, the Juno-esque film "centers on a rebellious, slightly bad-ass Goth girl (Ennenga) who convinces a suicidal young man (Frecheville), to go on a road trip with her across Texas to track down her little sister (Aprile) who’s been taken from her great-grandmother’s (Burstyn) home." Filming is set to begin this fall. [Variety]
