Saoirse Ronan to Star in John Crowley's 'Brooklyn'
It's been awhile since we heard anything about Brooklyn, not the borough but the Nick Hornby-scripted film based on the Colm Toibin novel. At the time it was looking like Rooney Mara was going to star, and production was to have begun earlier this year but a director was never found so that obviously never happened. Well now all of that has changed and film is moving forward with new talent both behind and in front of the camera.
Our friends over at Bleeding Cool caught up with Closed Circuit director John Crowley, who revealed that he'll be at the helm for Brooklyn. And what's more, Mara is out and has been replaced by the supremely talented Soairse Ronan. She'll play Ellis Lacey, an Irish immigrant in New York whose boring life is upended when she falls in love with an Italian plumber. A terrible tragedy sends her back home, where the arrival of another man forces her to make some hard decisions.
Crowley revealed filming will begin some time next year, and hopefully it'll be a nice bounce back from the disappointing Closed Circuit.
