John Krokidas to Direct 'Standard Happiness Package'; Mark Tonderai Remaking 'Day of the Dead'
* John Krokidas made one heck of a directorial debut with the Beat Generation film, Kill Your Darlings, rounding up a hot young cast that included Daniel Radcliffe, Dane DeHaan, Ben Foster, Elizabeth Olsen, and Jack Huston. It remains to be seen if he can round up that kind of talent for his follow-up, Standard Happiness Package. Written by Keith Bunin and based on Charles Yu's short story, Standard Loneliness Package, the story centers on a college grad hired by a tech company to experience painful events for their clients. * Considering some of the remakes we've heard about recently, taking another crack at George Romero's Day of the Dead sounds pretty tame. First announced last summer, the film will now be directed and co-written by Mark Tonderai, who last helmed Jennifer Lawrence's House at the End of the Street. 1985's Day of the Dead was Romero's third zombie film after Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, and centered on a group of scientists and soldiers attempting to find a cure for the zombie outbreak. The film will be produced by the same folks who gave us the recent Texas Chainsaw 3D, so blame them.
