'Saw 8' Reportedly in the Works Because $$$

Like all of the best slasher movie villains, no lucrative horror franchise is ever truly dead. One should always expect it to return from the dead like Jason Voorhees, and that's what may be happening with the Saw. Even though the the seventh (!!!!) film in the series was released three years ago, was titled Saw: The FINAL Chapter, and scored a franchise low $68M, it's apparently coming back for one more go.

A report over at Bloody Disgusting says that a new Saw film is in active development over at Lionsgate, probably because they realized the prior films have made nearly $900M total and that's a cash cow worth milking to the bone. What's unclear is the direction they'll go in, as the site says the studio is biding their time looking for a "new direction", which could mean a remake or just going ahead with Saw 8.

By the time Saw ended its last run Paranormal Activity had firmly supplanted it as the Halloween horror of choice. But as 'Activity' is beginning to wane, perhaps Saw can reclaim the title? Maybe Jigsaw has one more trap up his sleeve?
