Seth Rogen to Bring 'Preacher' to AMC?

Almost as long as this site has been alive and kicking, Hollywood has been trying to find ways to adapt Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's acclaimed comic, Preacher, either for the big or small screen. Sam Mendes, DJ Caruso, and Joe Carnahan have been attached to versions at one point or another, with Caruso going so far as to line up stars Chris Pine and Shia LaBeouf to join him, nothing ever came to be. But now that may be about to change, as rumors over the weekend suggest Preacher has found a new home at AMC.

Talk began to bubble up thanks to the guys over at Badass Digest who say AMC has ordered a pilot for the series which follows Jesse Custer, a Texas preacher possessed by a powerful entity who encounters all sorts of crazy and highly blasphemous characters while trying to find God and make him pay for abandoning humanity. There are no details about who could star in the show, but according to Seth Rogen's tweets he'll be involved in some way....

Meanwhile, AMC's Chief Operating Officer Ed Carroll apparently revealed to the folks at Escape Pod Comics in Long Island that the network has indeed purchased the Preacher rights, and he went so far as to buy a copy of Preacher Vol. 1. We've always said that news like this doesn't happen in a vacuum, and it definitely looks like something is happening with Preacher and we'll hear something definite before too long. It makes sense for the network to be AMC, as well, since they already have The Walking Dead as a perfect companion and recently lost Breaking Bad as their centerpiece series. [Bleeding Cool]
